| The Happy Child (Sretno dijete) |
|
Saturday 7th November, 4.45pm Igor Mirković, 97 mins, Croatia, 2003, SP Beta, Croatian (English subtitles), 18+ Named after an ironic punk song by legendary Croatian group Prljavo kazalište about growing up in communist 1970s Yugoslavia, ‘The Happy Child’ is a light-hearted and quirky look at the music revolution that shook the former country. Known as the New Wave, the revolution was a cultural movement in a highly-charged political environment, and the documentary features rare interviews and footage of some of the biggest names from the era. The director of the rockumentary, Igor Mirković, was just a child when the movement was taking place and so decided to track down the rock stars who were its creators and are now scattered all around the world. The emphasis of the documentary is on the city of Zagreb, the director’s hometown. Acts and music featured include Azra, Prljavo kazalište, Film and Haustor. An absolute must for lovers of punk and rock music, Zagreb and its edgy club scene and those who are fascinated by the evolution of Jasenko Houra’s hairdo throughout the decades.
